Comments:   When I lived in Arizona, I had been the Maintenance Officer for the CAF's B-17G "Sentimental Journey", Falcon Field, Mesa, AZ. During this time the Lacey's were kind enough to exchange many parts and or borrow to replicate for the restoration of our flying example. Working for "Champlin Fighter Museum" until 1985, I shifted gears and moved to Idaho where I now operate a WW2 aircraft restoration facility, "Airpower Unlimited". I want to respectfully express my sincere gratitude and best wishes

Comments:   I remember as a teenager my Mom would tell me stories of how she would climb up inside the airplane and sit there eating olives out of the can. She also told me that she worked at the cafe as a waitress typing the menus in 1961 (she was a senior in high school - Milwaukie High). I also remember driving my Mom and Dad's Orange 72 Ford pickup truck and waiting in line to get gas that was .72 cents a gallon then. I am now 43 years old. Great memories!

Mrs. Scott, thank you again for opening up the museum for us last spring and giving us the personal tour, it was one of the highlights of our trip. Hope to visit you again one day and encourage others to visit as well.

I am so grateful to see the "Bomber" is still there. My former husband and myself used to work at the "Bomber". We had 2 boys Jason and Michael who used to climb the trees and I would be worried sick that they would fall. I really miss that area.

Graciously,

And the staff is delightful and always friendly. Makes you feel as if you are dining "at home" with good ol' home cooking. Continued success!!!

Will the nose be re-attached? Will the location the plane is at be used for anything else to compliment the bomber?

Thank you!

I even climbed up through the radio area and sat on top of the fuselage, until Art saw me and let me know (calmly) that I should get back down. It was wonderful to be allowed the chance to learn so much about the B-17 and I certainly thank Art Lacy for allowing it. My parents were regular customers of the gas statio

As a kid, going to the Bomber was so exciting because you never knew what Art was going to say or do. I can remember sitting in the cockpit of the B-17G in the 60's playing like I was the pilot. My sister and I used to go up to the Bomber once in awhile and help pump gas, or deliver oil. I can still remember riding with Art in his red convertab

I was underfoot a lot while that place was being put together, and Art actually took time to answer my questions, and Berdine was gorgeous and pleasant, and they called their 6-yr-old daughter Punky. That stuff amazed me.

Then, Art Lacey promoted a program at MUHS in which we could earn credit and walking-around money for pumping gas. Biz Ed?

I somehow got into that program,

Saw the web site in the Fords of the Fifties news letter "Down The Road" As a charter member of that car club, founded in 1975, I was suprised to see that our clubs "Happy Days Picnic" is being held at the Bomber, now! Good luck on the restoration of the B-17. We are fortunate to have the Blimp Base air museum here in Tillamook.

She helped close down the Center when the last B-29's came through. I have been doing research on both the 17's and 29's. Imagine my joy when I found your 17 on the www.terraserver.microsoft.com web site by typing in your city and searching for her.

Remember me? I pumped gas there in '59 with Leslie Smith and the gang. Still remember putting Gold Stars on the wing windows of cars for their Friday gas discounts. Those were the good old days. Can you imagine $.15 a gal. for Ethyl. Ha ha ha. Spent 28 years in the U.S. Navy, 3 yrs working for Increduble Universe and 5 yrs for Fry's Electronics in San Diego. I do visit my folks in Milwaukie from time to time and will stop by the next time I am in the area.

At that time, the bomber was open to the public and I have fond memories of going through the whole bomber and sitting in all the seats. I believe it was closed because of vandalism and theft.
